Earthly Orbit signs AM44 contract with R.S.C.C.

During the ITU Telecom World 2009 exhibition held in Geneva, Earthly Orbit Communications Ltd signed a long term contract for capacity with RSCC on the new Russian Express AM44 satellite, located at 11° W.

Earthly Orbit will deploy their networks in the Middle East, using Express AM44 Ku-Band resource, for communications and digital TV services.

Director of Earthly Orbit, Mr. Neville Ford commented:

"We are delighted to be significantly increasing our existing commitments with RSCC through the signing of this new AM44 contract. The ST-2 footprint is very strong over the Middle East and we expect to see continued growth in the coming months from both new and existing customers."

Express-AM44 spacecraft named after Russian scientist A. Popov was launched into orbit on February 11, 2009 and put into operation at 11° W on May 7, 2009. The satellite carries 27 transponders, including 16 Ku-band, 10 C-band and 1 L-band transponders. Express-AM44 is equipped with four state-of-the-art antennas: 2 steerable Ku-band antennas, 1 C-band and 1 L-band antennas providing coverage of Europe, the Middle East, Africa and America. The spacecraft is manufactured by ISS Reshetnev company (Russia) in cooperation with Thales Alenia Space (France) and is designed for 12 years of operational life-time. Express-AM44 satellite provides TV and Radio broadcasting services, data, broadband Internet, telephony, as well as government services
